Before purchasing an eSIM plan, it is worth spending two minutes confirming your device supports the technology. Here are the fastest ways to check.
Method 1: The dial code trick
- Open your phone's dialer app.
- Type *#06# and press call.
- If an EID number appears on screen, your device supports eSIM.
Method 2: Check your settings
iPhone: Go to Settings > General > About. If you see an EID number or a Digital SIM section, your iPhone is eSIM-ready. This applies to iPhone XS and newer models in most regions.
Android (Samsung, Pixel, and others): Go to Settings > About Phone > Status (or Settings > Connections > SIM Manager on Samsung). If an EID is listed or an "Add eSIM" option appears, your device supports it.
Two things people forget to check
- Carrier lock status: A device locked to a specific carrier may block installation of other eSIM profiles. Contact your carrier to confirm your phone is unlocked.
- Region restrictions: Some phones sold in mainland China and a few other markets ship without eSIM support, even on otherwise compatible models.
